“Ellen” Cancels Kim Burrell Appearance For Homophobic Comments

According to a statement released by Ellen DeGeneres on Twitter on Tuesday, singer Kim Burrell will not be appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” as scheduled. The gospel singer was supposed to perform a song from the motion picture “Hidden Figures” alongside Pharrell on Thursday, but was scrapped after refusing to apologize for a sermon in which she referred to gays and lesbians as perverted, which was recorded at Houston’s Love & Liberty Fellowship Church and quickly circulated online. Pharrell has also responded to the singer’s comments, posting “I condemn hate speech of any kind” to his Instagram page, without making any specific reference to Burrell.
